Marriage of the Di Daughter Chapter 143 Part 4: Winter Solstice

The mansion did not seem to house any womenfolk, but it was just like how it was rumored outside, the male servants were all beautiful and elegant, extremely attractive. These servants should have gone through harsh training, when they saw Wen Ren Yao bringing people, each and every one of them fully concentrated on their work at hand and did not watch them.

They finally arrived at the main hall.

This mansion was huge, as they walked into the main hall, they heard a burst of laughter coming through from inside. The sound was like a torrent, making people hearing it feel excited.

“Old Master—” Wen Ren Yao yelled affectionately.

When Jiang Li stepped through the threshold, she saw an elderly man in armor sitting in the middle. His hand was holding a pike with a red tassel, drawing an arch. Upon hearing Wen Ren Yao, the old master turned around, the spear was too long, nearly poking Wen Ren Yao’s face.

“Little boy Yao, when did you return to Yanjing?” The old man’s eyes widened, then he saw Situ Jiuyue and said, “Oh, Jiuyue is also here!”

Wen Ren Yao said to Jiang Li in a low voice, “This is the old general, Ji Heng’s grandfather.”

Jiang Li was absent-minded. In regards to the old general, she had only heard of his reputation but never seen the person. What she knew was the story of the old general being valiant, brave and good in battle when he was young. Looking at him now, the rumors seemed true. At least, in this advanced age, he was still full of energy, he should not be a fake tough guy.

However….. The old general, Wen Ren Yao and Situ Jiuyue seemed to be very familiar with each other. Jiang Li had a new understanding of the relationship between these two people and the Ji family.

Wen Ren Yao’s action of whispering to Jiang Li did not escape the old general. Only then did he notice that there was another person beside Wen Ren Yao. He took a few steps closer , sized Jiang Li up and down before abruptly saying, “Little boy Yao, haven’t seen you for a few years, you’ve got a wife already? Which family’s young lady is this? She looks clever, how did she fancy you?”

Wen Ren Yao, “…..”

Jiang Li, “…..”

This old master was not polite in his speech.

Wen Ren Yao said, “What are you talking about! What do you mean how she fancied me? Which part of me is not good, don’t use this expression on me, there are too many ladies in Northern Yan who want to marry me. Why do you say that I have no good qualities?”

“I can dismantle you.” The old general ruthlessly pierced Wen Ren Yao’s lie, “You, don’t mention anyone else, my grandson is stronger in all aspects than you. He does not have a wife, but you have a wife, if the girl is not blind, then what?”

Seeing that the topic was getting more and more deviant, Jiang Li was surprised that no one explained her identity. Jiang Li could only step forward and said helplessly, “Old general, I am not young master Wen’s wife.”

There was a moment of silence in the room before old general Ji abruptly exploded in a hearty laugh. The laughter was loud and clear, even the people a distance away from the courtyard could hear him. He said, “That’s what I said!”

Wen Ren Yao’s face and ears turned red.

“Girl, who are you? Why are you following little boy Yao here? Are you Jiuyue’s friend?” Old general Ji asked.

“Not my friend.” Situ Jiuyue denied neatly, “it’s someone Ji Heng knows.”

“Ji Heng knows…..” Old general Ji’s eyes brightened, his gaze at Jiang Li was like a poor man looking at a pile of gold. He approached a few steps closer and asked, “Young lady, what is your relationship with the stinky boy Ji Heng?”

“Grandfather.” Just as Jiang Li was confused by the old general’s enthusiasm, a cold voice called out from outside the door. She turned her head to look and saw Ji Heng’s expressionless face as he walked in.

Usually, he either had a slight smile or a light, captivating smile. Even if it was fake, he would not have such an ice-cold attitude like now. But in this posture, there was a kind of ease that only he possessed, relaxed and letting his guard down.

“Oh, why is Miss Jiang second here too?” A voice came from behind Ji Heng. Jiang Li knew this person, it was Kong Liu. He was holding a plate in his hand with Lu Ji following behind him.

Why are all the people here? Jiang Li felt a headache, she should have consulted the almanac when she went out today. If she really wanted to talk to Ji Heng, it would be in private, not wishing for others to know. But what’s going on now? The duke’s residence also set up a family reunion dinner, so now everyone knew that she turned up looking for Ji Heng uninvited.

“Girl, why are you looking for our Ah Heng?” Old general Ji pestered.

Ji Heng flung the small plate in his hand and threw it onto the table. He said, “I asked her to come.” Without waiting for the old general to say more, he said with a cold face, “If you ask so much again, there will be nothing for you to eat.”

Old general Ji immediately stopped talking.

Jiang Li glanced at Ji Heng, feeling he was extremely weird today, as if he was in a bad mood. Kong Liu saw that Jiang Li was dazedly watching Ji Heng, moved closer to her side and said, “What happened, Miss Jiang second?”

“Nothing,” Jiang Li said, “I just feel that the duke doesn’t seem to be in a very good mood today. Is it….. because I’m here?”

“No.” Kong Liu was obviously well aware of the reason. He enthusiastically dispelled Jiang Li’s confusion, “He was always in a bad mood when he prepared meals.”

“He prepared meals?” Jiang Li was shocked.

“Yes.” Kong Liu said it as a matter of course, as if this matter was nothing. He pointed at the table, “Everything was prepared by him, the old general ordered it, although he didn’t like doing it, he still has to do it.”

Only then did Jiang Li notice the various dishes spread on the long table in the middle of the hall, looking both fragrant and beautiful. It’s almost meal time, Kong Liu indicated to the plate on his hand, “The snacks personally prepared by the duke, try one?”

Jiang Li could not help following Kong Liu’s movement and looked at the small plate. She saw extremely exquisite pastries with lovely appearance emitting an attractive fragrance. More beautiful than the pastries made by the most prosperous pastry shop in Yanjing.

She felt everything was ridiculous, even having the illusion that everything was not true.

She took another look at Ji Heng. He seemed to sense her sight and glanced at her.

That glance did not have the usual false smile, even possessing indifference and recklessness, yet it made Jiang Li’s heart cold.

Eh, she seems to discover one more of Ji Heng’s secrets, will she be silenced?
